We have released an enhancement to the Discussions feature in MemberHub. It has been redesigned for improved readability and and browsing.
Each hub has its own Discussion Board which acts like a mailing list for the members in that hub. When discussion threads have many messages that have been sent via email, the old design for Discussions was showing all the previous text in each message and to parse all the messages in a thread you had to click on each message. Furthermore, the listing of Discussions in the hub wasn’t a view of discussion threads, but rather a list of messages/replies with the latest reply to any given Discussion at the top.
- It was difficult to see the current discussion threads.
- It was difficult to see which discussion threads had more activity.
- It was difficult to parse an entire discussion.
To alleviate these concerns we redesigned the Discussions views.
With the design:
- The Discussions listing now shows a list of discussion threads, rather than the latest message of any given discussion.
- Each discussion thread shows the total count of messages in that thread.
- The discussion thread at the top have the latest activity.
- When you actually view a Discussion you see one view with all the messages in the thread.
- Each message hides “previous text” so you only see the reply part of the message.

I like this new method. I noticed that the original message is at the top. In most forums it’s the reverse. Would it make sense to have the most recent post at the top and work back?

I have noticed that even the deleted discussion still show up … that really clutters our site. We do a weekly email and weekly prayer list and delete the previous ones when the new ones go out. Now, our other discussions which we want to access are getting lost in the long list of discussions that we have deleted.
Not a fan of this change.
Hey Julie. We’re actually working on this issue right now. Discussion threads that have all their messages as deleted should NOT be showing up in the list of Discussion. I’ll let you know when this fix is deployed. I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience!
We have updated Discussion to have a Delete Discussion option. Admins will see a trashcan besides the name of the Discussion topic and also a button when viewing an actual Discussion. Enjoy!
